Poetry Cafe at Salisbury Arts Centre

This was last night and monthly on I think the last Thursday of each month. Very good atmos and a few people I recognise from other Poetry Evenings in the area. Would like to have had a chance to read one of my longer poems but the event too popular for that!Grace is very sweet and you can turn up and book in on the night. There is usually a guest poet.

The Arts Centre is in the actual Cathedral and at night the effect of the lighting around the outside of the building is quite dramatic.Inside is friendly and surprisingly warm and there is a Bar!See you there.

Set Record Straight

As to the above I now clarify, if only to myself that Write-Angle hold an Open Mic Poetry evening on 2nd Thursday of month at the Square Brewery in Petersfield and Tongues and Grooves hold similar at the Florence Arms in Portsmouth on the last Sunday of the month.

So one of my recent posts is wrong, mixing up the two.

Freeplay at King Charles

On Tuesday I decided in the end to attend Freeplay at the King Charles pub in Poole as it was nearer and I wanted to find out and report to the fledgling Poole Poets Group at next meeting.

I was not a bit disappointed for although the room upstairs was filled with musicians randomly jamming, two of us were poets. We were encouraged to dig something out to recite to music. I decided to do 'Necropolis...' which features on my website and another short poem 'Windscreen Wives'. It was decided my poetry was suitably apocalyptic for such an occasion. The musicians did a fine job of tracking something with which they were able only to briefly become familiar.

Open Mic

Heard just in time of an OM at Petersfield tomorrow. Think you can just turn up for 7.30 according to the website of Tongues and Grooves. Awaiting confirmation as to that. I do however have a backup as there is Poetry on at The King Charles pub in Poole. Not sure if it is OM but can suck it and see if no joy at Petersfield. Perhaps will phone the Square Brewery pub in Petersfield which is the venue on 01730 264291

Ring in the New

Feeling much better now and just in time for all the new Open Mics starting up again. Through Apples and Snakes have found out about a few good venues in the Portsmouth area which support Poetry. Will post the dates in this month that may be of interest to like-minded people in a few days and may then see you there.

Looking forward to this afternoon where Writing Buddies run by Penny will be trying out the Arthouse Soton as a new venue for their meetings.I already know of this place and taken part in Moving Voices the Poetry Open Mics(also Music). A beautiful place run by volunteer staff and with a New Age feel and organic/vegetarian delicious food. Sometimes there are special offers on the food so it's worth checking the link here. So much going on besides Poetry. See you there this avo perhaps

Happy New Year

Hope everyone had , as I did, a great NY celeb. A well organised bash at the Bournemouth Pavillion with good dance entertainment including the current UK Champion husband and wife dance team; also including the most willing and cheerful set of youngsters going through their beautifully rehearsed paces-forming human pyramids etc. From little mites to the graceful younger teen it was just the best you could get. Occasionally you could just make out the compere when these youngsters were not performing but on one occasion when everyone was asked for a bit of 'ush that's what we got across the board.

Later in the evening at crunch time the youngsters syayed and saw in the New Year and Decade with us all and it was just the best of atmospheres with the mix of youth and experience.

Happy New Year everyone!
